Pistons Were Informed Of Malik Beasley Investigation Before Free Agency Opened

Jul 5, 2025 10:09 AM

Ahead of the opening of NBA free agency negotiations on June 30, the NBA reached out to the Detroit Pistons to let them know about the pending investigation into guard Malik Beasley. It had been assumed that Detroit would do what was necessary to re-sign Beasley, who was coming off a strong season for the team in 2024-25.

With Beasley under investigation for gambling concerns related to NBA games, Detroit pivoted to other players in free agency. The Pistons have agreed to sign Caris LeVert, sign-and-trade for Duncan Robinson and to re-sign Paul Reed.

The gambling investigation is just the latest in a long line of off-court issues for Beasley since he entered the NBA. When the Minnesota Timberwolves traded Beasley to the Utah Jazz, they had worried that he'd be able to keep his off-court life on the straight and narrow.

Dennis Schroder, Kings Agree To Three-Year, $45M Deal

Jul 1, 2025 12:45 PM

Dennis Schroder and the Sacramento Kings have agreed to a three-year, $45 million deal. The first two seasons of Schroder's deal are guaranteed while the third year is a partial guarantee. The Kings created enough room to sign Schroder outright instead of a sign-and-trade with the Detroit Pistons after trading Jonas Valanciunas to the Denver Nuggets for Dario Saric.

Schroder, who is represented by Mark Bartelstein, averaged 13.1 points, 2.6 rebounds and 5.4 assists and a PER of 12.5 last season with the Brooklyn Nets, Golden State Warriors and Pistons.

Schroder repaired his value with his strong performance with the Pistons during the final stretch of the regular season and into the playoffs.

Pistons Interested In Caris LeVert, Duncan Robinson

Jun 30, 2025 1:48 AM

The Detroit Pistons are interested in signing Caris LeVert and acquiring Duncan Robinson via sign-and-trade, according to Marc Stein of The Stein Line and Jake Fischer of The People's Insider.

The LeVert interest comes following rumors that the team will lose Dennis Schroder to the Kings, with Nickeil Alexander-Walker expected to move to the Hawks.

Robinson terminated his contract with the Heat on Sunday. The two sides are expected to work out a new deal or explore sign-and-trade scenarios.

The possible moves for LeVert and Robinson also come following news of Malik Beasley being investigated for gambling on NBA games.

Beasley and the Pistons were expected to sign a new deal in the ballpark of three-years, $42 million, though that is now on hold.

Pistons, Hawks Contenders To Sign Nickeil Alexander-Walker

Jun 29, 2025 12:28 PM

Nickeil Alexander-Walker has emerged as one of the better free agents available this offseason. The Detroit Pistons and Atlanta Hawks are contenders to sign Alexander-Walker. Both teams would likely offer deals starting near or at the Non-Taxpayer MLE amount of $14.1 million.

The Minnesota Timberwolves luxury tax and apron status means that Alexander-Walker could be available this summer for more than the Wolves can pay him. Minnesota recently agreed to a new deal with Naz Reid worth $125 million over five years. The Timberwolves are also expected to bring back Julius Randle, who has a $30.9 million player option for next season.

Detroit could be looking for backcourt upgrades, as free agent guard Malik Beasley is being investigated for gambling related to NBA games. In addition, Dennis Schroder is attracting interest around the NBA as a free agent.

The Hawks are resetting their depth this offseason. Atlanta acquired Kristaps Porzingis from the Boston Celtics, and drafted Asa Newell at the 2025 NBA Draft. Those moves have Atlanta looking for backcourt depth behind starters Trae Young and Dyson Daniels.

Malik Beasley Being Investigated For Gambling On NBA Games

Jun 29, 2025 12:04 PM

Detroit Pistons free agent Malik Beasley is under investigation the United States District Attorney's Office for being involved in gambling related to NBA games and prop bets. Beasley is set to become an unrestricted free agent on July 1.

The Pistons and Beasley were in talks on a new contract worth $42 million over three years. Those talks are now on hold, as this situation plays out.

"An investigation is not a charge," Beasley’s attorney, Steve Haney, told ESPN. "Malik is afforded the same right of the presumption of innocence as anyone else under the U.S. constitution. As of now, he has not been charged with anything."

The NBA previously banned Jontay Porter from the NBA for life due to gambling on NBA games. That included games where Porter directly influenced his own stat lines for prop bet purposes.

Pistons Were Preparing To Make Offer For Naz Reid In Free Agency

Jun 28, 2025 3:12 PM

The Detroit Pistons were preparing to create enough cap space this summer to make an offer for big man Naz Reid. However, Reid has agreed to a five-year, $125 million contract to stay with the Minnesota Timberwolves.

The Pistons may consider making a run at Memphis Grizzlies restricted free agent big man Santi Aldama. Detroit would like to add a stretch big to their frontcourt group. Wolves guard Nickeil Alexander-Walker could also be a target for the Pistons this summer.

Detroit is considered likely to re-sign Malik Beasley on a multi-year deal. Re-signing Beasley has been the priority for the Pistons for several months now.
