Jared Dudley has agreed to become the top assistant coach for the Denver Nuggets under David Adelman.

Dudley has been on the coaching staff of the Dallas Mavericks under Jason Kidd since his retirement as a player in 2021.

Adelman is in his first full season as head coach of the Nuggets after the dismissal of Michael Malone. The Nuggets didn't retain the majority of Malone's other assistants.

The Nuggets also had interest in James Borrego for the top assistant coach job, but they were denied permission by the New Orleans Pelicans.

The Dallas Mavericks have hired Frank Vogel as associate head coach under Jason Kidd. Vogel will replace Sean Sweeney, who left the Mavericks to become associate head coach of the San Antonio Spurs under Mitch Johnson.

Jason Kidd was an assistant coach for the Los Angeles Lakers under Vogel when they won the 2019-20 NBA championship. Kidd is expected to sign a contract extension with the Mavericks before the start of next season after he was a top candidate for the New York Knicks' head coaching vacancy that went to Mike Brown.

Vogel was fired by the Lakers after the 2021-22 season and he was head coach of the Phoenix Suns for the 2023-24 season.

Dante Exum and the Dallas Mavericks have agreed to a one-year deal. Exum considered offers from two other contending teams, but decided to remain with the Mavericks. 

Exum was limited to only 20 games last season because of a fractured wrist and broken hand. Exum averaged 8.7 points, 1.6 rebounds and 2.8 assists in 18.6 minutes.

The Mavericks also signed D'Angelo Russell to give the team depth in the backcourt while Kyrie Irving rehabilitates his torn ACL.

Jason Kidd and the Dallas Mavericks are expected to reach agreement on a contract extension before the start of the 2025-26 season. The Mavericks rejected the New York Knicks request to speak with Kidd about their head coaching vacancy. Kidd was widely believed to be the top choice of the Knicks.

Kidd signed a two-year extension with the Mavericks in May 2024 when he similarly emerged as a candidate for the Los Angeles Lakers' job.

The Mavericks hired Kidd as head coach in 2021 to replace Rick Carlisle.

Kidd has become the Mavericks' leading spokesman as Nico Harrison continues to be a controversial figure with fans following his decision to trade Luka Doncic to the Lakers. 

The Mavericks lost top assistant Sean Sweeney to the San Antonio Spurs this offseason along with Alex Jensen to the University of Utah. Jared Dudley could also exit the Mavericks. Kidd hopes to hire Frank Vogel to replace Sweeney.

D'Angelo Russell and the Dallas Mavericks have agreed to a two-year, $13 million deal. Russell finished last season with the Brooklyn Nets following his trade by the Los Angeles Lakers. The Mavericks will use their $5.685 million tax midlevel exception to sign Russell, who is represented by Aaron Mintz and Austin Brown.

Russell will help the Mavericks sustain at point guard while Kyrie Irving continues his ACL rehabilitation. Russell could also play off the ball in the backcourt when Irving returns.

Russel averaged 12.6 points, 2.8 rebounds and 5.1 assists last season.

The Dallas Mavericks are expected to sign D'Angelo Russell to a two-year, $12 million contract, sources told Marc Stein of The Stein Line and Jake Fischer of The People's Insider. Russell, who is represented by Aaron Mintz and Austin Brown, averaged 12.6 points, 2.8 rebounds and 5.1 assists with a PER of 13.8 last season.

Despite Russell potentially being the 15th and final contract on the roster, the Mavs are still interested in re-signing Dante Exum.

The Mavs could explore the trade market for Olivier-Maxence Prosper in order to make room for Exum.

Prosper averaged 3.9 points and 2.4 rebounds in 52 games last season. 

The Denver Nuggets have received permission from the Dallas Mavericks to interview Jared Dudley for an assistant coach position under David Adelman. Dudley has also received interest from the Memphis Grizzlies and Cleveland Cavaliers. Dudley was also a candidate for the Phoenix Suns' head coaching job.

Dudley joined Jason Kidd's coaching staff with the Mavericks in 2021 after he retired from his playing career. Dudley was drafted in 2007 out of Boston College by the-then Charlotte Bobcats and played 14 seasons in the NBA.

The Mavericks have also lost Sean Sweeney and God Shammgod this offseason from their coaching staff.

Adelman is beginning his first full season as head coach of the Nuggets after replacing Michael Malone.

The Denver Nuggets are the latest team interested in hiring Jared Dudley as an assistant coach, sources told Marc Stein of The Stein Line.

The Grizzlies and Cavs are also pursuing Dudley.

Dudley is currently the No. 3 assistant on the Mavs bench.

God Shammgod, the Mavs lead assistant in charge of player development, is also drawing interest from the Magic.

The Mavs can offer Russell the taxplayer midlevel exception worth $5.7 million in the first year.

Chris Paul could also be a target for the Mavs, though Paul reportedly wants to play closer to his Los Angeles home.

The Mavs also are interested in re-signing Dante Exum, though they would no longer have the taxpayer midlevel exception if they use it on Russell or another point guard. The Mavs roster would also then be full with 15 players on contract.

Exum is looking to sign with an NBA team next season rather than return to Europe. 

The Dallas Mavericks and center Moussa Cisse have agreed to an Exhibit 10 contract. The non-guaranteed training camp deal will give Cisse an opportunity to compete for a spot on the Mavs roster.

As a senior at Memphis, Cisse averaged 5.7 points, 6.5 rebounds and 1.6 blocks per game. The 7-footer also played for Oklahoma State and Mississippi during his NCAA career.
