Jul 7, 2025 10:17 PM

Malcolm Brogdon will likely remain unsigned until after Bradley Beal's situation is resolved. Brogdon has received interest from the Los Angeles Clippers, Phoenix Suns, Los Angeles Lakers, Golden State Warriors, Minnesota Timberwolves, New Orleans Pelicans, Sacramento Kings and Milwaukee Bucks.

The Washington Wizards are open to sign-and-trade discussions involving Brogdon.

Warriors Remain Clear Favorite To Sign Al Horford

Jul 7, 2025 1:17 PM

The Golden State Warriors remain the clear favorite to sign Al Horford this offseason despite no agreement being reached one week into the start of free agency. The Warriors currently can only offer Horford the $5.7 million taxpayer midlevel exception.

Horford has also been considering retirement and also had been linked with the Los Angeles Lakers. The Denver Nuggets have also been mentioned as a possibility for Horford, but they continue working to convince Jonas Valanciunas to remain in the NBA.

Last season, Horford averaged 9.0 points, 6.2 rebounds and 2.1 assists while shooting 36.3 percent on three-pointers for the Celtics.

No Traction On Jonathan Kuminga Contract; Kings Have Been Strongest Pursuer

Jul 7, 2025 8:43 AM

Golden State Warriors forward Jonathan Kuminga, like most restricted free agents this offseason, has been stuck in a holding pattern. With very little cap space available this summer, rival teams don't have the ability to put pressure on incumbent teams with offer sheets. That's left restricted free agents like Kuminga waiting to figure out their next contract.

As of now, Kuminga has had no traction towards a new deal, either with the Warriors or another team. Several teams have been reported as having interest in a sign-and-trade for the talented young forward, with the Sacramento Kings having the most interest of that group.

It appears that Kuminga, along with players like Josh Giddey of the Chicago Bulls and Cam Thomas of the Brooklyn Nets, will have to wait as their restricted free agency drags out a little longer.

Wizards Showing Interest In Jonathan Kuminga

Jul 4, 2025 9:00 AM

The Washington Wizards have expressed serious interest in signing Golden State Warriors restricted free agent forward Jonathan Kuminga. The Wizards would have to complete a sign-and-trade for Kuminga, as they don't have the cap space to sign the forward to an offer sheet.

Kuminga has also received varying levels of interest from the Sacramento Kings, Miami Heat, Chicago Bulls, Milwaukee Bucks and Brooklyn Nets. Of that group, only the Nets have a path to create the cap space to make Kuminga an offer. The other teams would be looking at sign-and-trade scenarios, like the Wizards.

Kuminga's role was reduced with Golden State last season. He was injured for part of the year, then fell out of Steve Kerr's rotation. Kuminga averaged 15.3 points on 45% shooting, while grabbing 4.6 rebounds per game.

In the 2023-24 season, while being a regular starter, the 22-year-old forward averaged 16.1 points on 53% shooting. Kuminga played in 74 games that season with 46 starts.

Warriors Looking For 'Promising Young Player,' First-Round Pick For Jonathan Kuminga

Jul 4, 2025 1:41 AM

The Golden State Warriors are looking for a "promising young player" and a first-round pick in exchange for Jonathan Kuminga, according to Anthony Slater of The Athletic.

The Kings offered Devin Carter, Dario Saric, and two second-round picks for Kuminga, though the Warriors felt that was a low-ball trade package.

The Wizards most recently registered interest in Kuminga, with the Heat, Bulls, Bucks, and Nets also showing different levels of interest.

Kuminga is searching for a situation where he would be a featured part of a core.

The two sides have plans to meet face-to-face during Summer League in Las Vegas.

Kuminga's return to the Warriors next season is also still on the table.

The Warriors currently have the ability to match any deal Kuminga signs after extending a $7.9 million qualifying offer.

Warriors Favored To Sign Al Horford As He Also Considers Lakers, Retirement

Jul 3, 2025 2:36 PM

Al Horford continues to consider his options in free agency as he is set to leave the Boston Celtics. The Golden State Warriors are considered the frontrunners to sign Horford, but he is also considering the Los Angeles Lakers or even retirement.

"I'm told he is reviewing multiple options including the Warriors, the Lakers, but also retirement," said Shams Charania on a Thursday afternoon Sports Center appearance. "He is 39 years old. He just finished season 18. I'm told it would be a surprise if he makes a final decision by this weekend. He certainly has earned the right to make a decision at his own time.

"I will say though the Warriors are hopeful of where they stand in all this if Al Horford decides to play again."

Horford would he a strong theoretical fit with the Warriors due to his passing, perimeter shooting and defense.

Horford, who is represented by Jason Glushon, has also been linked with the Los Angeles Lakers and New York Knicks.

Last season, Horford averaged 9.0 points, 6.2 rebounds and 2.1 assists while shooting 36.3 percent on three-pointers for the Celtics.

NBA Players Forfeit $480M From Escrow Fund After Revenue Shortfall

Jul 3, 2025 11:35 AM

NBA players will forfeit more than $480 million from the escrow fund after the league's basketball-related income fell short of projections for the 2024-25 season. The NBA pegged BRI at $10.25 billion, according to someone familiar with the accounting who was granted anonymity because the details are private.

Players will retain just 90.9 percent of their salaries from last season. The collective bargaining agreement requires the league to withhold 10 percent of player salaries to ensure the revenue split stays at 51 percent for players.

Top Earners Hit Hardest

Stephen Curry, the NBA's highest-paid player at $55.8 million, will forfeit $5.1 million from the escrow fund. Other star players facing significant cuts include Joel Embiid ($4.7 million), Nikola Jokic ($4.7 million), Bradley Beal ($4.6 million) and Kevin Durant ($4.5 million).

A player earning $20 million would net $18.2 million before taxes and agent fees. The 10 percent escrow was split 91 percent to teams and 9 percent back to players.

Revenue Challenges Behind Shortfall

Overall revenue likely came in light due to the choppy local media environment and multiple small-market teams reaching the playoffs. The postseason gate receipts were dented by the lack of major-market teams in the final rounds.

The escrow system has fluctuated significantly since implementation in 1999. Players received nearly 100% of their salaries in 2022-23 when revenues jumped, but the system previously cost players money during multiple seasons.

NBA players should collect their full 2025-26 salaries. The salary cap was set at $154.6 million, up the maximum 10 percent allowable increase, following new media agreements with NBC, ESPN/ABC and Amazon worth $77 billion over 11 years.

Kevin Durant Trade Could Expand To League-Record Seven Teams

Jul 3, 2025 1:30 AM

The Phoenix Suns and Houston Rockets are working to involve a league-record seven teams in the Kevin Durant trade, sources told Fred Katz of The Athletic.

The Atlanta Hawks, Brooklyn Nets, Golden State Warriors, Los Angeles Lakers and Minnesota Timberwolves would also get involved in the deal.

The details of the trade are currently being negotiated, with no deal imminent.

The framework involves the Hawks sending Clint Capela to the Rockets in a sign-and-trade. With Durant still headed to Houston, Dillon Brooks and Jalen Green would go to the Suns. Daeqwon Plowden is the only other active NBA player involved in the deal.

The rest of the players are from draft-night trades that were already agreed upon, which cannot be finalized until July 6.

Jake Fischer of The People's Insider adds that a six-team trade was being discussed during the second round of last week's draft. The Hawks adding Capela to the mix in a sign-and-trade would make it seven teams.

Celtics, Warriors, Lakers Interested In Signing Damian Lillard

Jul 2, 2025 8:40 AM

Damian Lillard will have no shortage of suitors after he clears waivers. The Milwaukee Bucks chose to waive and stretch Lillard to create the cap room necessary to sign Myles Turner in free agency. Lillard is said to be happy with the move, as he'll have the opportunity to pick his next team.

Multiple contenders are expected to express interest in signing Lillard. Teams already known to have interest in signing Lillard when he clears waivers are the Golden State Warriors, Boston Celtics and Los Angeles Lakers.

Lillard is expected to miss most, if not all, of next season, as he recovers from a torn Achilles that he suffered during the first round of the NBA Playoffs. Teams who sign him this year, will be making a signing for the future, as Lillard is likely to spend most of the upcoming season rehabbing.

Lillard may choose to sign with a team now, and rehabbing with that team's medical staff. The other option for Lillard is to wait to see how situations around the league shake out, before signing a deal with a new team.

Jonathan Kuminga Could Agree To Short-Term Deal With Warriors; Heat, Kings, Bulls, Pelicans Registering Interest

Jul 2, 2025 2:17 AM

Jonathan Kuminga could re-sign with the Golden State Warriors on a short-term deal, according to Jake Fischer of The People's Insider.

Both Kuminga and the Warriors were prepared for a slowly developing market for the restricted free agent.

The Heat, Bulls, Kings, and Pelicans are interested in Kuminga at varying levels, though each team has challenges in adding the forward.

The Heat are currently balking at Kuminga's potential $30 milliion-per-year price point and have also been linked with DeMar DeRozan and John Collins.

The Bulls are also hesitant of adding Kuminga's salary, with the Warriors no longer interested in acquiring Nikola Vucevic.

The Pelicans have also registered interest in Kuminga but have no easy path to add the forward while staying out of the luxury tax.

The Kings could include Malik Monk in a deal for Kuminga but no trade package has materialized with the Warriors.
